From the beginning of his study of the Bible, which reaches back to his youth, Bryan Vinson, Sr., has been fascinated with this particular letter of Paul. He has been a devout and painstaking student through the years. In addition to his being an ardent student of the Bible, Mr. Vinson has saturated his mind with the writings of the pioneers in the “Restoration Movement”: the Campbells, Moses E. Lard, J. W. McGarvey and many others. In this present work the author manifests the same independence of thought and dedication to truth that characterized the thinking and writings of those great men of a past era. Even his sentence structure and command of words remind one of these men.
The author of this commentary has striven to aid the interested student of the sacred writings to reach a clearer understanding of the majestic theme of “justification by faith” as set forth by the Spirit-inspired apostle. His one aim is to arrive at truth. All who have read and studied the Roman letter have recognized difficulties in understanding Paul in some places. Without going to great length in discussing Greek words, which often confuse the average student, the author has written for the common man, that he might grasp the apostle’s message and be helped thereby. Whether the reader is or is not in agreement with some conclusions reached by the author, he will find himself challenged to a fresh study of his own position.
